The Fondaction Building in Quebec City is the first six storey glulam post and beams building built in North America. Its total height is 22.2 m and 8.6 m underground (3 underground parking levels). The structure was designed to accommodate the permanent deformation by orienting the load parallel to the wood fibers. The main characteristic of the project is that the columns are continuous from the ground up to the roof. The outside wall is a glass curtain wall.
The building is energy efficient with more than 40% in energy savings. The building is LEED certified and the project won several honorable mentions and prizes, among which the 2010 CECOBOIS Prize for structural concept.
